I typically like to unwind after a wedding job doing something that doesn’t involve cameras, photography, or anything of the sort.  I like to decompress and get my mind off of things for a quick minute.  Sometimes, though, I change things up and decide to unwind by photographing live music.  It was one of my first photography loves, and it’s something I still get a huge amount of enjoyment doing.  My most recent work came on Saturday, May 19th in Birmingham, Alabama at the Good People Brewery.  Two bands that I very much enjoy, The Bear and Doc Dailey & Magnolia Devil, made the drive down from the Florence/Muscle Shoals area to perform for the patrons of the brewery’s tap room.

The Bear’s soft and melodic performance was a great way to start the evening.  Everyone was relaxed and enjoying themselves along with the various beers available from Good People’s tap room.  I continue to be impressed with The Bear every time I get to see the band perform.  They give off a great amount of confidence even with a laid back approach.  As the night continued, the band finished their set but a couple stayed on stage as they helped make up Doc Dailey & Magnolia Devil.

The more upbeat Doc Dailey & Magnolia Devil closed out the evening with songs forged in the fires of North Alabama.  From covering bands throughout the state, I’ve talked a lot about the great music that is coming out of North Alabama right now.  Doc Dailey & Magnolia Devil along with The Bear are two prime examples of the talent in that part of the state.  Where as The Bear will softly guide the crowd through the evening, Doc Dailey will make them get on their feet and start dancing, whether they want to or not.  It was a great 1-2 punch to witness.
