August Spies at Egans: 6/1/12
Being in a town like Tuscaloosa, Alabama, you tend to see a lot of bands come and go. If you are here long enough, you can see bands start from out of nothing, work their way into whatever they might become, and then time tends to take its course. One band that I’ve recently seen start up is a group called August Spies. One of the members, Drew, is a friend of mine, and I’ve noticed the enthusiasm and drive he’s exhibited as the band continues through its infancy. They have played a couple of shows in Tuscaloosa already, but I was able to photograph their show at Egans on Friday, June 1st.
Even in its short existence, the band has experienced a line-up change, and this show was the first to test those waters. Like all bands at this stage, things are still rather rough around the edges, but since August Spies plays an aggressive punk style, the rough edges tend to fit right in with the overall presentation. I am curious to see how far this band will go, but regardless, it’s always good to see new groups emerge within the Tuscaloosa music scene.
