We are well into June and well into the sweet spot of wedding season.  My latest wedding assignment, which was on June 9th, 2012, took me down the road from Tuscaloosa bit to the town of Eutaw, Alabama.  It was there I photographed the wedding of Alicia and Marcus, which was held at the 2nd Baptist Church with the reception occurring at the Eutaw Activity Center.  The young couple had a traditional wedding held in front of a large gathering of friends and family.

Things went a bit differently with this wedding as we quickly went into formals right after the bride and groom arrived at the church.  I have to credit Alicia because she was well organized and prepared for the formals, especially since we were dealing with a rather large bridal party and assortment of family members.  She had a list prepared and directed things beautifully.  I always appreciate a bride that will take charge and step up like that because, frankly, people will listen to her far quicker than they will listen to me.  With the formals out of the way, it was time to get ready for the ceremony.

Alicia’s father, the minister at Eutaw 2nd Baptist, conducted the ceremony, and it was touching to see him get choked up a bit talking about his daughter and future son-in-law.  The ceremony went smoothly and even concluded with a traditional “jumping the broom” ceremony.  I believe this was the first wedding I have worked that actually implemented this into the wedding.  With the “I Do’s” said and the broom jumped, it was time to move down the road just a little bit for the reception and party.

Alicia and Marcus’ friends and family put up a great reception for the couple as various relatives helped cook and serve the food, pour the drinks, and provide other assistance.  After a long day at the church, everyone was in the mood to unwind and have a good time.  The couple enjoyed the night with their guests before doing the traditional cake cutting, bouquet and garter toss, toasts, and first dance.  As the night wound down, they said their goodbyes and prepared for their honeymoon to lovely Miami, Florida.
