“The Faces of a Season” – An introduction

The 2012 NCAA football season is underway.  Excitement.  Anguish.  Happiness.  Heartbreak.  The wide range of emotions that football can bring out will be on display at colleges across the country until December.  Being based out of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the home of The University of Alabama Crimson Tide, is a blessing for someone who loves to experience and document the culture of college football.  I get a firsthand chance to experience it all each weekend Alabama plays at home.

It’s that love that has brought forth my newest photo project, “The Faces of a Season”.  It is my goal to show you all, especially those not familiar with the atmosphere of college football, what each game day looks like from the perspective of the fans.  I want to show you the people that come to town and support their favorite team.  I want to show you their faces and the stories they will tell for the 2012 season.  Many people have documented the atmosphere and pageantry of college football, but it is my goal with this project to focus strictly on the people.  Fans come in all different shapes, sizes, colors, and characters.  I want to find them all.  I want to share with you these portraits of a season.

The first part of the project will begin this weekend as Alabama has its first home game of the season as it hosts Western Kentucky.  I look forward to sharing it with you all on this blog and http://www.dsmithimages.com.  I look forward to sharing with you all, “The Faces of a Season”.

Enjoy!
